Nancy SADLEIR 1733-1815
« on: Friday 25 July 25 23:58 BST (UK) »
Trying to find the origins of Nancy SADLEIR. When she made her will in 1814 she stated she was of North End, Hampstead in the county of Middlesex. She wished to be buried in the church at Watford in Hertfordshire near to her niece Mrs Bruere. She was buried at Watford on 4 June 1815 aged 82 years so born c1733.

On some trees on Ancestry she is noted as the wife of William BRUERE, but this is not the case. William BRUERE's wife was a Nancy SADLEIR, but she was born c1760, married William in India in 1782, had three children with him and returned to England about 1787. She was of Stanmore when she died as Nancy BRUERE about January 1803.

Nancy BRUERE's will mentions a Nancy SADLEIR, which could be the older one and perhaps the aunt.

Have checked the newspapers and can find nothing relating to Nancy SADLEIR. There are some records on UK Archives relating to a court case in 1816 between Sadleir & Sadleir and Bamford & Collins, but it has not been digitised. Mrs Bamford and Mrs Collins were left things in Nancy SADLEIR's will, so there must have been some dispute.

There may be an Indian connection with the younger one being there to marry William BRUERE in 1782.

Has anyone come across this lady anywhere please.

Thanks

Additional info.

I believe Nancy BRUERE was buried at Watford on 29 Jan 1803 as Nancy, wife of William BRUERE. Appears in the St Mary's Watford burial register.

Nancy SADLEIR may have had brothers Richard and Anthony, who were both in India at some stage. Anthony possible father of Nancy, wife of William BRUERE.

Hello
Thank you for the extra info that helped alot.
Like you I think Nancy Sadlier who married William Bruere was the neice.

And with names Richard and Anthony in the mix I think I have Nancy Senior.
The Sadler /Sadlier family of Cleobury Mortimer.

Ann Sadler d of Holsback and Mary bapt 4.10.1734.
Her siblings surnames are spelt both Sadler and Sadleir

Richard 15.6.1733 CM- 11.9.1811 Lewisham Kent.
Anne buried 4.4.1734
Mary 18.12.1735-6.8.1738
Francis 12.5.1737
Anthony 21.5.1742
Elizabeth 13.11.1747-18.12.1747.

Given the dates it's more likely Richard was Nancy junior's father.Anthony's Pcc Will of 1794 confirms this.He mentions niece Nancy Bruere wife of William.Brother Richard solicitor of Sydenham kent, sister Nancy spinster of London (who got annuity of £200 a year.)There are pages and pages of it ,so I won't do a summary.
Richard's 1811 Will leaves everything to wife Elizabeth.

Holbeche Sadleir married Mary Morris at Little Hereford 12.4.1733 .So a bit of a rush there.
Holbech buried 12.5.1765 Cleobury Mortimer and widow Mary 25.3.1772.
Holbech was a joiner

There is a document you may want to see which mentions him and his wife at the Shakespearre Birthplace Trust.

Fillongley.
Description:
Lease and Release dated 32-23 Oct: 1744. Thomas Sadleir of Birmingham, staymaker, & Sarah his wife, William Sherley of Kenelworth, horn combe maker, and Frances his wife, Mo ntague Sadleir of Coventry, perukemaker, Holbeche Sadleir of Mortimoore Cleobury, joiner, & Mary his wife, Ann Sadleir of Winchester, spinster, children of Francis Sadleir of Fillongley: to Thomas, Lord Leigh. of Long Head lands , 2 days work in Mill Field, and one in Holly Bushes. Wit: Will: Finch, Will: Clifto, Chris: Wright. Jos: Gibbs. s. & s. Seals a lion rampant.

Date:   1736-1774

Hopefully that will connect up the larger family.

Hi
Just to add I have now found the father's Will .It's at Hereford archives.
The executors are Nancy and Mary.
https://www.herefordshire.gov.uk/herefordshire-archive-records-centre/wills-search?forename=&surname=sadleir&parish=&executornames=&from=&to=&submit=Submit#results-search

That may have a few more details.
