Do remember that at about Gt Gt Gt GP level it is possible that no DNA is inherited from them due to the random nature of DNA Recombination.

In the image the White segments show the xG GP’s from whom DNA is not inherited.

Each person can have their own unique version of this chart.

If this is the case it is not just a Spanner that has been thrown into the mix but a whole Toolbox.

To give an example in my Wife’s DNA validated Family Tree there are DNA Cousins who link beyond her 3xGGP’s in 15 out of 16 cases, so it may be that there is no match at this level of it may be that there is no DNA inherited or we may simply have the wrong person (doubtful given the paper trail) but it may be a NPE even.

Just to reiterate Biggles' point on GGGP inheritance. While DNA has confirmed many 4C for me I am also aware of two 4C who have their DNA on Ancestry and yet do not show as DNA matches and another who doesn't show as a match to my 1C. There are doubtless a number more who are only revealed as non_DNA matches if they have a tree which refers to their DNA confirmed matches within it.

Yes it is confusing trying to get matches back this far.  The one tree I have that seems to make sense reaches the 3x gt grand -parent level. I have recently found for that one line the parents which takes it back another generation.

I have also found some of the  siblings for this couple.   I have been lucky to find more about the family of the mother. 

It's proving very interesting and appears to have several cross links to other parts of the whole story.  I have cousins marrying cousins and even in one case half-brother and sister.

Hi Biggles and everyone,

As many have said making trees for those on the match list has become an endeavor of patience, time and results.

Over this last time I have traced a number of relatives from within the mystery man's family.  This has given me a much more definite idea of whom he is.  It's been interesting.

Being from such a small community I have now got a cobweb of cross marriages between not just two families but about 6. It's almost impossible to follow who belongs where and where they originated from.  This is because of how often they marry between the families and within the families. 

The big plus is that I now am seeing connections to the DNA persons in the match lists.  My next endeavor is to put all this into the Family Tree Data program I have. 
The poor computer is going to have a heart attach dealing with it.  Today my brain spun until I burst into laughter after surprisingly finding yet another intermarriage - from the same family.
The hardest part is the cultural norm behind the whole. It drives the scenario.

I also dug into the niece's matches and found a few things there as well.  All good!

Hi  Everyone,

Thank you Biggles50  for the last post .  I shall try to live up to it.

I have not yet finished with this issue and have been as I said adding all into the computer over the holiday period which was hot and steamy in my neck of the woods but we still enjoyed our festivities.

Meanwhile I have been working on the Murray family and those clusters that matter endeavoring to get positive links, building family units and working on those for connections.  yes it is proving interesting but difficult as many very early records just do not exist in this particular case or they appear to be incorrectly reported.
 The reason I am chasing records it to try to use the DNA to back up  those. 
 
Another issue here is that the cultural customs are seemingly at odds with recording as well. 
Hopefully I can soon have a better connection to this person suspected as the missing mystery link. 
This is all in Australia and I am dealing with the cohabitation between the two cultures from 1800 to the present and the workings of various "Church Mission and occasionally Government Mission Settlements".

Quite a task.

If widespread endogamy did occur then that can skew the results. Even with very many DNA matches to work with it may take the matches uploading their raw DNA to Gedmatch.  Tier 1 tools can be used to develop an understanding of the inheritance pathways.  A longshot, but possible (probably).

From my understanding the records are even more confusing with totally inconsistent names being used which are and can be very different to their given name.

The native peoples are great storytellers so maybe that can be a route to consider following.

Hi everyone ,    yes this is a very big task and at times it is bigger that ever.

I have been working down one line. It's just a small part . 
It is thought that my Mystery Man's father married again after his first wife died.   So I decided to try to work out that second line.    The reason being to corroborate that information.  Also hopefully link back into the known match lists I have. 
All up I have found some 250 plus trees many private but all have the same marriage connection. After that its utter confusion. 
Within this there are small segments that make sense but connecting the whole is just not happening.    these small segments have at least ironed out some previous difficulties with names particularly last names.  [Mostly related to how they were spelt.  ]
Even so, further down and sideways it is still messy.

I should expect this .....  many of the "Officials" would have been immigrants some English, some Irish and some from any where on the globe.. gold rush times 1800's onwards.  So  miss understanding of the proffered information was inevitable often. Then again the Missions to which many  gravitated as lands were turned into Farms and Stations also had language issues.
However knowing that still does not help to unravel this tangle.
