Help needed to identify uniform
« on: Wednesday 23 July 25 16:33 BST (UK) »
Hello,
I have a photo that I think is an ancestor of mine and have been trying to identify the uniform he is wearing. I would be grateful for any help. I think it is WW1 but apologise if not!
Thank you,
Aileen

Thank you very much! I am now not sure about who this is as I don't have a relative who served with the Royal Artillery (at least not that I have found yet). I wonder if I might ask another question? I have a great relation who was a first or second lieutenant in the Scots Rifles. Were they linked or associated with the Royal Artillery?

They may have crossed paths but were not linked.

He seems to be wearing spurs.

Is that still a possiblity for a member of an artillery regiment?

Yes, all three branches of the Royal Artillery, namely Field, Garrison and Horse all wore spurs as required. However he is not in the Royal Horse Artillery, because their officers wear a different cap badge.

So post 1916.  The RHA wore the same cap badge as RA and RFA in WW1.
