Dickinson/Dickenson Family – Hints, Staffordshire – 18th Century
« on: Wednesday 23 July 25 15:37 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone,

I'm struggling to find birth records for someone in my family tree, and I'm hoping someone might be able to help. Below is the only information I have:

Edward Dickinson (or Dickenson)

• Born: 1766 (location unknown)

• Died: 1837 in Hints

• Married to: Ann (possibly Critchley or Crutchley)

• Children:
     • Edward Dickenson (b. 1801, d. 1883)
     • Elizabeth Dickenson (b. 1798)
     • Mary Dickenson (b. 1796)
     • Thomas Dickenson (b. 1793)
     • Sarah Dickenson (d. 1808)

I've found a good amount of information about his son, Edward (b. 1801), who later moved to Birmingham. However, I’m really struggling to find anything on Edward (b. 1766) or his wife Ann/Anne — particularly where Edward might have been born.

I've checked for birth or baptism records in Hints, but haven’t had any luck. If anyone has suggestions or resources that could help, I’d be incredibly grateful.

Thank you!

The daughter Sarah mentioned was bap 1 March 1807 buried 13 July 1808.

There is also an earlier Thomas son of Edward and Ann who was buried 11 November 1792

Ann has been transcribed incorrectly image has 18 March 1804 (not 1803)

Hi
The son Thomas buried in 1792 looks to be baptised at Drayton Bassettt 25.9.1791
Older brother John 1.6.1788
Parents marriage there
Edward Dickenson of this parish 24.3.1788 and Anne Thompson.
wit Thomas Mickenwright and Hannah Mickenwright.(m 31.12.1787 at Middleton ,her name Hannah Short).
It does not say if it was there first marriage or not.-bach or spinster etc.

But I don't think your Edward is the same Mr Edward Dickenson who married Maria Wildman by licence at Tamworth 4.12.1777.
He was of Drayton and they had- Edward Wingfield Dickinson 21.3.1779,Samuel Prgeter 23.7.1780 and Newton 12.8.1781 before her death 9.8.1789.
He seems to be a lawyer living at Drayton Manor.
There could be some relation though.
The Dickenson family of Drayton Bassett seem to be descended from 3 brothers John wheel wright of Burton on Trent born c 1701 ,Joseph yeoman born 1718 and William wheelwright born 1710.(whose second wife married 4.10.1736 Margaret Dingley came from Hints)
Their parents Edward and Mary/Marie Chadbourne married at Mavesyn Ridgware 19.2.1699.

But I'm just not getting the connection to your Edward with a nice baptism in 1766.
