Mary Anne MACKEY death
« on: Wednesday 23 July 25 06:21 BST (UK) »
Mary Anne BRUERE was born in Boulogne-sur-Mer, France in 1830. In October 1852 she married James Vokes MACKEY at St Martin in the Fields, London.

By the following year they were in Dublin, as over the next ten years or thereabouts they had a number of children all born there. The father was a merchant and JP.

James Vokes MACKEY died in Dublin in November 1880. His death registration indicates his condition as married, so would that mean his wife is still alive, as I am trying to find her death. James was buried in the Mount Jerome Cemetery.

A number of trees on Ancestry have her death in 1875 in Waterford, but I am a bit wary of this. The age would fit but her occupation is listed as a servant. Unless they were separated why would the wife of a fairly well-to-do merchant from Dublin end up in Waterford working as a servant, which is a fair distance away.

Hoping someone can assist in finding her please.

Thanks
Ian C

Hi

If you look at the Mackey info on Page 1, it states Mary Ann Sadlier Vokes Mackey ‘died 1891’. See

Thanks LH.

Could not find her anywhere in the Irish deaths, so wondered if she had returned to England. Had a look on GRO and found a Mary Anne Oakes Mackey death in 1891. Also found her on the Probate Calendar where it said she died at Harrow.

Turns out is is her so she did return to England, which one of her children did as well.

So if she is mentioned in the Mount Jerome Cemetery records, was she taken back to be buried there, or was she buried in England.

Thanks Kiltaglassan, I had found him. Yes he was a son, born in Dublin 1856.

Some of the Bruere lines used early family surnames quite a lot as second names, hence Bruere Vokes Mackey. Vokes was a surname from further back I think as well.

Both the records for Mount Jerome and a notice in the Dublin Daily Express (26 Feb.1891) indicate she was buried in Mount Jerome.
