I'm trying to choose the right 'profile' for Mary Sloggett, daughter of Jesse Sloggett and Jane Taylor, who married 2 May 1768, St. Minver. Mary was their second daughter, baptised 6 May 1770, St. Minver. Using the OPC website I have found three possible people, each of whom could be her, as all of them were from/lived in/buried in St. Minver, and their age when they died puts them all as born around 1770. I am stuck trying to work out which one of the three is right, though I have a current favourite, and I would be grateful for your thoughts on this
Profile 1: Mary Sloggett buried 28 June 1847 in St. Minver, residence the Poor House, St. Minver, age 76 ( = born c. 1771).
Profile 2: Mary Sloggett married Digory Strout 11 October 1788 in St. Minver, groom residence Endellion. Witnesses Jesse Sloggett and Humphry Craddock. Eight children from 1789 to 1807, first son called Jesse, second Digory, first daughter Jenny, second Anne*. Buried 5 January 1850, St. Endellion, residence Port Isaac, age 79 ( = born c. 1771).
Profile 3: Mary Sloggett married John Carhart 1 March 1795 in St. Minver, residence of both St. Minver, groom a bachelor; bride a spinster. Witnesses John Cradock and John Sloggett. Nine children from 1795 to 1814, first son called Richard, second John, first daughter Catherine, second Joanna*. Buried 5 April 1853, St. Minver, residence Rock St. Minver, age 81 ( = born c. 1772).
* I included the names of first and second son and daughter as I tried to see if either family followed the traditional naming pattern of 1st son named after paternal grandfather etc., but neither seem to have, apart from the Mary Sloggett and Digory Strout marriage which possibly follows it in a slighly mangled order: the first son is called Jesse and the second Digory, which may be the traditional naming pattern but in reverse.
Several Mary Sloggetts were baptised around 1770:
(1) 4 May 1767, St. Minver, to John and Ann Sloggett.
(2) 4 March 1770, St. Minver, to John and Ann Sloggett.
(3) 17 April 1770, St. Minver, to George and Mary Sloggett.
(4) 6 May 1770, St. Minver, to Jesse and Jane Sloggett.
(5) 13 September 1772, Bodmin, to William and Eleanor Sloggett.
Out of these, we know option 4 is correct as far as Mary's parents are concerned, and given her father was called Jesse, which also happens to be the name of the firstborn from the marriage of a Mary Sloggett and Digory Strout in 1788, while the father appears to have been a witness to this marriage, we can be fairly confident this is the correct marriage out of the options.
So in summary I think Mary and Digory Strout is the 'right' profile for the Mary Sloggett in question. Sorry for lots of text, I tried to show how I've done everything I can think of to determine which Mary is 'our' Mary, and would really appreciate a second opinion, thank you.
