Wilfred Shelbourn(e)
« on: Tuesday 22 July 25 10:10 BST (UK) »
I hope this is an easy request, can someone please help to  locate the man above in the1921 census.
He was born in Grantham in 1892, married Amelia Whitehead in 1919, almost certainly in Leeds and died in 1957 in Agbrigg Wakefield. I have found him in 1901,1911, and 1939 but have drawn a blank in 1921. The census for that year shows his wife and son living with her parents in Leeds, but no mention of Wilfred. He was an engine driver if this is any help.
Hope someone has more luck than me, thanks.

As far as I am aware - 1921 lookups are still not allowed on RC

I have had a look at the 1921 English/Welsh/IOM & Channel Islands but nothing obvious

Hi

I have had a quick look & as Rosie17 said he was living at 3, Oakley Street, Thorpe with the Wigglesworth family.

I managed to find them at that address but he was not there but the head had a link to the railway.

It might be that he was working when the census was taken & so he might of been miss off the census.

Just reporting a negative result:

I searched the 1921 census for engine drivers, birth town Grantham (no other fields completed). There were 68 hits! I checked the first 5 and they were indeed all engine drivers, born Grantham. I skimmed through all 68 of these, but no name leapt out.

I added birth year 1892 +/- 5 years, this reduced the list to 6, but no obvious candidates.

I removed birth year and entered Wilfred as 1st name, including variants: no hits at all.

I removed 1st name and used S* for surname: list of 4, no obvious candidates.

Hi Rosie

I found the Wigglesworth in the census, name misspelt. Luckily the neighbours had a distinctive name so went by them & then looked at some of the other addresses in the street, several had a link to the railway but nothing on Wilfred.

There is this Wilfred Shelborne ? on the electoral roll 1921
Address 3,Oakley Street Rothwell

For info.

West Yorkshire, England, Electoral Registers, 1840-1962 Rothwell, West Yorkshire

Wilfred is living at that address from years 1921 up to 1925 with the Wigglesworth
then year 1926 he and Amelia Shelbourne living at 44 Bright Street and then from 1927 onwards they are both living at  26 Ramsgate

As his wife and young child are with her parents, as was suggested perhaps he was working away from home :-\
