Is Timothy Coppin = Timothy Vinton

Hi, trying to find baptism details for Timothy Vinton/Winton & variants bap 1768 poss in Kent near border with Sussex (no trace of a Sussex baptism), he flits between the two counties for most of his life.

He married Mary Elliott 20 Feb 1792 Beckley, Sussex and had 3 daughters bap. Beckley viz. Mary 1792, Jane 1793 & Charlotte 1795.

My descent is through Mary (1792) and her illegitimate daughter Harriett b. 1813 Wittersham, Kent.  I am satisfied that I have her and her descendant details but I am trying to trace Timothy back.

He seems to have died as Timothy Vinton in Tenterden district Mar qtr 1849 aged 83 giving possible birthdate of 1766.  He is in the 1841 census (HO107/479/20/4) in Wittersham with an unknown 60 year old Sarah Winton.

I wondered if anybody could find a suitable baptism for him in Kent - there is nothing suitable in Sussex.  There is though, a Timothy Coppin, bap Chart Sutton, Kent in 1767 to parents John Coppin & Mary.  This Timothy seems to disappear from records after this baptism and there is no record of a marriage between John Coppin & Mary so just a theory that maybe Timothy Coppin became Timothy Vinton, and could his mother Mary be the Mary Vinton bap 1749 Brenchley, Kent to Abraham & Mary Vinton (née Riley).

Any info to confirm or disprove this theory most welcome, or any other thoughts on the origins of Timothy Vinton/Winton please.

Sarah Winton / Vinton is on 1851 and 1861 censuses. She is born abt 1780/1 in Wittersham. In 1851 she has granddaughter Martha Whatman with her, age 9 also b Wittersham

Looks like William b abt 1803 illeg son of Sarah Whatman

Sarah Watman spinster married Timothy Vintain (sic) widower on 04 Dec 1808. wits: Mark Ridley and Wm. Sisley

There's a Hannah Vinten bapt 08 Apr 1798 Wittersham d/o Timothy and Mary

Thanks Lizzie for that info - its what I was trying to capture.  My head has been going in circles trying to tie Timothy Vinten down, so much so that I haven't really come forward at all.
