Sometimes, when working using the individual's name is getting nowhere, going back over old research and focusing on known addresses can provide a new angle of approach. Searching based on the address/addresses known can, for example, throw up newspaper and/or other references that might ultimately link to the individual or an associate/family member and provide new avenues to pursue.

I think if you have a death certificate with a matching date of birth, and you can't find a possible other Robert James Clarke born in that date, it will be the right person.

Does the death cert say who his wife was?
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

I  can’t remember , I would have to fish it out .  I will have a look and see,  it’s been a couple of years since I looked at it. However think you might be right.
