Many many thanks to you all for the various info on Robert and his family . I never expected to go this far into there lives . It seems that Robert was a notable Mariner in the day .. makes a change to the fishing occupations of many in the James line from Newlyn. I will look into the ship info carefully as there are many different ones he was in charge of . One thing I am puzzled by is "Why his Son's left to go to Argentina?". It seems a long way to go . I think Robert James became master of the Zadkiel after the Mary Garland - around '65/66.

I had several holidays in Newlyn (Pilchard Cottage?) and thoroughly enjoyed.
There's a wealth of info in the papers re. voyages made - from dashing up to Cardiff to sailing for Valparaiso. At one stage he broke the record for an Atlantic crossing.
