Hi
I have found an ancestor, Mary Hetherington, in the 1911 census, but I am struggling to find her on previous census records or anything that will take me a generation further back.

In 1911 she is living with her son John (Head of household)

Registration district number 452
Birkenhead
ED 37
Piece 21994

If anyone can help at all..... I know how clever so many of you are

Actually, I don't think Mary HODSON is the correct Mary - she appears in the 1911 census with her brother John HODSON. at 149 Claughton Rd, Birkenhead.

I think based on the fact that a son (of Mary) Charles HETHERINGTON is with her in the 1911 census given in the op, it is this family in 1901:
Mary HETHERINTON (54) Liverpool
Charles                        (31)  Birkenhead
RG13/3393/37 pg 28

John and Charles HETHERINGTON seem to have mmn KELLY.

John's 1896 marriage  to Harriet Lane is online.  Marriage cert shows his father as John occ fitter
