Two brick walls, Cooper & Rance
« on: Wednesday 16 July 25 21:32 BST (UK) »
I have two questions I'm hoping SKS can shed some light on.

Marlow Cowper (Cooper) marr. Diana Rance at Warfield on 4 Nov 1801
Dinah Rance bap 25 Aug 1782 at Wokingham

Question # 1
(No records of Marlow Cooper or Cowper other than his father & son were also named Marlow, can anyone shed any light on him at all?

Question #2
The only possible death record I could find was for a Dinah Cooper d. 1872 in an Alms house in Sussex (which made sense as they seemed to have ended up in Brighton) correct age, however the death cert lists her husband as William. I have seen other trees that list her death in the same year at Wokingham but they have no Sources to back that up.

Dau. of Marlow Cooper & Diana Rance was my 3x gt grandmother Ann Cooper bap. 23 Mar 1806 at Warfield. As were all her siblings but most seemed to have ended up in Sussex. I have all info & source docs on her.

Does anyone have access to PR’s, local death records etc in Berks for any info on Marlow & Diana/Dinah?

Regards, Anne in Canada

The Dinah Cooper who died 1872 is shown as 87yrs so b approx 1785 making her barely 16 if she married in 1801.   1871 census shows her b Billinghurst Sussex & her marriage shows her as Dinah Laker who married William Cooper on 28.4.1810 in Sussex.

Ref Marlow Cowper/Cooper jnr 1841 shows him as Cooper - could this be Diana - remarried? Living in Sussex

Was there a daughter Rebecca who married a William Tugwell 1839 - was widowed - then later married Henry Heath on 6.11.1853 aged 35?  Father is shows as Marlow Cooper on both marriage certs

A Marlow Cooper married Sarah Burret or Burnett on 1.2.1796 in Easthampstead Berks.  Diana could have been a second wife

Son Marlow was baptised 12.5.1822 Warfield to Marlow & Diana

Hi,
There is a Marlow Cooper bapt. 28-11-1779 Winkfield St.Mary, Berks  (s/o Marlow Cooper & Eleanor of Warfield)
There are also a few baptisms in Easthampstead with father as Marlow with mother either Mary or Ann - have not listed them also;
in Wokingham All Saints from 1738 with father as Marlow.
These are all recorded in the Berks FHS bapt. cd
Don't know if any of these help.

Thank you CaroleW & ribbo39 for your quick responses.

Carole: I did see the 61 census for some Cooper’s but discounted Dianna Evans due to her birthplace. I will research this possibility. I do have most of the Cooper children & spouses but will definitely compare.

Alan: the Marlow in Winkfield is also a good possibility as the baptism date is close to Diana, also a cousin gave me his parents names but other than mum Eleanor being from Warfield there’s no transcription on Ancestry for Marlow.

I appreciate this new information, it has given me some more avenues to research, thank you again.
