Good find! Lucy Minaker had a son named Chauncey, so that fits with their deceased brother.  https://www.newspapers.com/article/redwood-city-tribune/176760433/

Lucy on death index has father’s name of Pegham - https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:VPQ2-98L?lang=en

Might Sidney have become Ernest P. Raymond?

Ernest P. Raymond is listed as brother of the groom in a wedding announcement for Frederick A. Raymond & Esther Davis in 1896 in Washington.  John P. Raymond also attended.   https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-post-intelligencer-marriage-of-raymo/176751502/

Ernest's marriage license seems to have his middle name as Peagam - https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-99J7-77ZH?view=index&personArk=%2Fark%3A%2F61903%2F1%3A1%3AQPMT-16PG&action=view&cc=1534448&lang=en&groupId=

Naturalization records for Ernest - https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33S7-95XH-9SD9?view=fullText&keywords=Ernest%20P%2CRaymond&lang=en&groupId=

Ernest died in 1920.  death certificate - https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HY-688S-YJG?i=1123&lang=en

death notice - https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-news-tribune/105652667/

Julia Carroll Riley is mentioned in his estate papers, as well as Fred Raymond, John Raymond, and J. H. Riley.  https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-post-intelligencer-marriage-of-raymo/176751502/
Nope Ernest was Sidneys brother. For Some reason they all changed their surnames to Raymond. It appears that most if not all Sidneys siblings emigrated. Canada, The states and Australia

Per amondg’s findings above, the original Ernest was born in 1874 and died in the same year.  That doesn’t seem to fit anywhere with the findings of Ernest in Washington, who was born in the 1850’s and died in 1920.

Maybe Sidney decided he liked the name Ernest better than Sidney.  Maybe he made the change to honor his brother.

Maybe there is another explanation, but I still think it could be Sidney.

Also, in his divorce records, Sidney said he resided near Newaukum, Lewis Co., Washington.

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33S7-95X4-9FZX?view=index&cc=1930340&lang=en&groupId=

The census has entries for Ernest Raymond in Newaukum through 1920.

1900, born May 1860 - https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MMP2-38D?lang=en  (His wife is listed as Sarah instead of Clara, but I think that still might be them.)

1910, born circa 1857 - https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MGV3-S64?lang=en

1920, born circa 1857 - https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MHNM-5DK?lang=en

E. Raymond & John Raymond living together in Lewis Co. in the 1892 Washington census.  https://digitalarchives.wa.gov/Record/View/16F92E0DFAED0441476DD6D5A5B1185B

Fred Raymond from Seattle was visiting his brother in Newaukum in July 1894, around the time of Sidney's divorce.  https://washingtondigitalnewspapers.org/?a=d&d=PPLADVCT18940720.2.6&srpos=7&e=-------en-20--1-byDA-txt-txIN-raymond+Newaukum------

Ernest P. Raymond was a witness at the marriage of Frederick A. Raymond in Jan. 1896.  https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QSQ-G9VX-DXWT?view=index&personArk=%2Fark%3A%2F61903%2F1%3A1%3AQKNB-DKY5&action=view&cc=1534448&lang=en&groupId=

All the girls were evidently well pleased as they were at the depot when he arrived to extend congratulations, which were unnecessary."  https://washingtondigitalnewspapers.org/?a=d&d=PPLADVCT18960306.2.27&srpos=8&e=-------en-20--1-byDA-txt-txIN-raymond+Newaukum------

Raymond brought to his neat little cottage by the school house a neat little wife last Thursday, Dec. 16. He met her in Chehalis where they were married and came at once to their little home. Your correspondent does not yet know the name of her ladyship, but can vouch for her being fair to behold. Neither have I learned from whence she came, but it is generally conceded 1 that she and Mr. Raymond “caught on” to each other through the advertising medium—thus demonstrating that advertising is profitable. I am starting to think that Sidney may actually have changed his name to Ernest. Ernest would have been the last male, the remainder were females. I have seen Change their name from James Thompson to James Martin, gradually adding a middle Name of Elijah after his nephew died then becoming James Elijah Thompson and when his mother died (Martin) becoming James Elijah Thompson Martin, then removing Elijah Thompson to become James Martin

Check the newspapers for the Peagam  plus various spellings.

Why did those who went to the USA change their name to Raymond, did something happen?

It seems those who went to Australia didn't.

Searched for Thomas Peagam and found numerous ads for the rent of his farm from 1876 onwards. There was one article in the North Devon Journal April 10th  1862 where he was fined 10s for assaulting an innkeeper.
