Looking for a Sidney Peagam in the states
« on: Tuesday 15 July 25 07:33 BST (UK) »
Following some recent help, I have discovered that one of my family members, Sidney Peagam b. 1856 in England emigrated to the states in 1882. In 1894 he filed for divorce from his Wife (Sarah Jane Lloyd) A copy of the divorce paperwork states he lives in Lewis Washington, however I have been unable to find him. He had a brother John Peagam b. 1871 England who also emigrated to the states in 1888 and used the name John P Raymond. Using this name I have been able to locate him in the 1910, 1920 and 1930 censuses living in the counties of King, Thurston and Lewis respectively. He died in Lewis County in 1942. Maybe he too changed his name or was absent when the censuses were conducted. I have been unable to find any trace of him in passenger lists etc. Maybe he entered from Canada. Any help would be appreciated.

When he married the name was spelled Pragram  (transcription) 31 October 1880  he was 24
Sarah Jane Lloyd was also 24.

They have  daughter Presswood Matilda "Pigham" 12 September 1881 born in the workhouse hospital.

A daughter Olive Evelina "Pigham" reg 1884 at Newport mother's maiden name Lloyd .

Is it because the workhouse register of  6 January 1883 describes her as the deserted wife of Sidney

that you believe he left in 1882 ? If so that would make Olive illegitimate.

John Peagham  17, Fred Peagham 18 and Julia Peagham 15, all went out together arriving 14 May 1888.

His surname was mispelt as Bigham, Pigham, Pragam, Pigden, Peahan etc. Yes he was in the states in 1882 and Olive is illegitimate. How do I upload file ? there is no option, it just says attachments, but no boxes. I have a document I created which is a timeline

It's on ancestry.
Easy to find, arrival date 14 May 1888 in Halifax Nova Scotia.

When you click on it it shows they are going to Seattle Washington
