I am a member of Ancestry and quite a few hints come up as Newspaper cuttings but then when i click on them they want me to subscribe so just wondering if theres anywhere online where i can look for free?

You can search for free on FindMyPast and buy individual pages for 50p. Also you may get more information from the free search to determine if it is the person you are searching for. You just need to have a free account.

There are a few threads on here about newspaper searching.

As Comberton says, there are subscription sites that you can search for free, but need the subscription to view the article, eg findmypast; British Newspaper Archive; newspapers.com. Some articles on findmypast are free to view.

There is also google news archive - free, though I find it difficult to search.

I have free access to newspapers through my Australian National Library card which gives me access from home to their e-resources which includes British Library Newspapers (as part of Gale Primary Sources). Other libraries around the globe have similar arrangements.
