Ann Stafford/Salford born 1755
« on: Saturday 12 July 25 13:57 BST (UK) »
Ann Stafford/Salford born 1755 in Dentonburn married 1788 to Richard Reed Hodgson. She died in 1820.

I am doing my family tree for the surname Pyle and I have told by a distant relative doing the same that she had a son called Thomas Pile/Pyle born in Houghton le Spring in July 1787 who died in 1848.

Can anyone with the knowledge and access to records give me help to confirm this and if correct who the father of Thomas was?

Many thanks for your help and time!

So do you think Stafford/Pyle was a married name or her maiden name?

Did she marry as a widow or a spinster do you know?

Unless she was married to a Pyle it will be difficult to find a father but if Thomas died in 1848 you can look on the 1841 census to see who he was living with.

Well there is a family tree but with conflicting information  :-\

Ann Stafford - Richard Pile died 1790
parents to
Thomas Pile born 1783 died 1848

The tree doesn't have a marriage for Ann in 1788 so is the thinking she had an affair with Richard Pile after she married Richard Reed Hodgson?

The 1841 census for Thomas says "no" for not born in County Durham

I can't see a death in 1848 on GRO index  :-\. Did he die abroad

Thanks for the replies so far!

Rosie99. I don't have any idea who the father is but your kind information of finding a Richard Pile as a possible father seems to be correct.

It could be that Thomas (Pile) Pyle had the same surname as his mother Ann Stafford/ Salford but decided to take his father's surname instead! The rest of your information fits in with what I had.
