Glover CLAPHAM died 1847

Glover CLAPHAM was born in Leeds, Yorkshire, England in 1809. In 1837 he emigrated to New York. Married Caroline Amelia FERRIS there in 1839, and had three children.

According to various trees on Ancestry he died in New York.

I have a newspaper death notice from the Leeds Intelligencer newspaper from 8 January 1848 that states he died at Port au Prince.

Was there a Port au Prince in New York around that time or is it the one in Haiti.

Can anyone assist please.
