I have finally gained access to my grandfather's army records, not helped by him signing  up with a false DOB. He was posted abroad in 1920, ending up in India. Having originally signed up for  5 years, he signed on for 12 and then  21 years, staying in India.
In 1932  he was  "granted six months furlough to the UK under Para 923  R.A.I"
During this time he married  my grandmother.
We assume this was leave to visit home  as he had been abroad  more than ten  years.
Could  someone point me at the regulations para 923 please?
