John Dearson Meller was associated with the Hundred of Thingoe Association for "the pursuit of felons". Appears under "Horsingsfield" or "Horsecroft/s".

Is "Horsecroft/s" a place? I've seen a "Horsecroft/s Farm" mentioned in 18th Century papers but cannot spot it as a place. Was John Dearson Meller at Horsecroft/s Farm"?

Checked GRO death registrations and there is a death of -
John Dea Miller, June Qtr 1839, age 85 (born c.1754), District Thingoe, 13 362

FindMyPast Marriage (transcript only)
John Miller & Sara Derson, year 1719, place St James Bury St Edmunds

Unfortunately, I am only picking up transcripts. Sometimes the originals of these pre 1811/12 registers carry that extra snippet eg occupation.

Blimey!  So much interesting information!

I think the 1719 couple are my chaps parents as that would make him 30 years old at the time of the Policy.

Horsecroft was described as a "Hamlet" sitting near Horringheath in the 1749 policy.  Horringheath is now called Horringer (I believe) and is just SW of Bury St. Edmunds.

It is frustrating when transcribed info does not contain all the original information, but I suppose it down to time.  May be this will improve with AI? :)
