British Royal Artillery
« on: Sunday 06 July 25 07:50 BST (UK) »
My Great Great Grandfather William John Love 1823 - was in the British Royal Artillery but I can not find his death which was prior to 1868. Where might I search (have tried the usual sites eg Ancestory etc unsure if he died in a military Conflict. He was based at the Woolwich Arsenal in London.

Have you seen this 2nd marriage in 1855? William John Love, Corporal in Royal Artillery, widower aged 32, to Ann Farquhar, 28

The signature matches his first marriage in 1847

I see that daughter Elizabeth named one of her children (Ann Farquhar Papple) after her stepmother.

Clues point to a likely death in Aberdeen in 1860.

Burial 7 April 1860, St Peter's Cemetery: William John Love

Plot purchase in June 1861 by Mrs Ann Farquhar or Love, of George Street, Aberdeen

This plot was transferred in 1881 to William Williamson.  In the 1871 census a William Williamson was the occupant at 17 James Street, Aberdeen, which was the location of Elizabeth Love's wedding in 1868, at which he was a witness.

I see now that William Williamson was Ann Farquhar's second husband. She married him (as Ann Love or Farquhar) in 1861 in Old Machar, Aberdeen (168/2/26).

He is recorded in the 1841 Army Worldwide Index as a gunner and driver in the 8th Company, 6th Battalion Royal Artillery, and in the 1851 WW Index in the 4th Company 9th Battalion Royal Artillery. On both occasions he was in Woolwich. Both these battalions were Royal Field Artillery.
