Allmarks in Cheshire
« on: Friday 04 July 25 14:40 BST (UK) »

I am stuck at John Lloyd bc 1791/5 and Mary Allmark bc 1791, Wervin

I have them both on census 1841, 1851 and 1861 and Mary on the 1871 and 1881.

On their marriage parish record in 1813 one of the witnesses is a Wm Allmark.

On the parish records for their daughter Mary's marriage in 1842, on the same page is a Joseph Allmark marriage, father James, a shoemaker. (There is another post regarding Joseph's marriage on the beginners board, but I thought it might be better if I started a new thread, apologies for doing so). Is it likely that this is a relative?

I have also seen records with the surname Hallmark - and I didn't want to jump to conclusions. Are the two surnames completely different?

I have a possible baptism for Mary Allmark off cprdb for Nantwich 1793, but I am not sure this is right.

Any advice gratefully received, thanks for reading.

Mary, daughter of William Allmark, Labourer and Annah, baptised 27 January 1793 - Nantwich.  Image on FindMyPast.

Thank you so much BumbleB, I am not subscribed to FindMyPast but glad to have the information.

Wonder if the mother is Anna(h) or Hannah - either way it is a step further back - thank you.

The entry does say Annah - but it might depend on accents  :-\

Yes, of course, I do forget about accents and how the words sound.

 Hi,

Looking geographically, John Lloyd was from Kinnerton, Flintshire according to the census information and he married in Chester itself. Mary Allmark was born in Wervin which is north of Chester heading towards Ellesmere Port.

Nantwich on the other hand is some 20ish miles south of Chester so it seems unlikely your Allmark family has any connections with the Nantwich families of the same name.

A tree on Ancestry suggests that John Lloyd was one of 7 children born to Edward Lloyd (1758-1843) and Elizabeth Shone (1766-1848) who married in 1785 at Hawarden in Flintshire. This tree has little or no information regarding Mary Allmark. I will look at Cheshire Parish Records to see if anything shows up.

Hi,

Some of Chesters records are extremely difficult to read and unfortunately with little success.

As Mary's marriage to John Lloyd took place at St Oswalds Chester, I did find some Almand families with various baptisms etc at St Oswalds Chester in the 1790's period.

This included a Mary Almand  (bap 30 March 1790) and a William Almand (bap 13 July 1794) both father John

Maybe a variation of the name misheard as Allmark? Both signed with a X on the marriage document.

Thank you very much Alan, I see regarding the distance of Nantwich. Thank you for your help and advice. So Edward and Elizabeth would be on census. Having their information for their birth/death dates and marriage is very helpful, thank you.

There was a bapt for 1790 in Tarvin for a John Lloyd, but I really wasn't sure, especially with place of birth given on the census as Kinnerton.

That is very interesting! And it feels like a good possibility, especially as you found bapts for both Mary and William with the same father. Thank you so much for looking, it is much appreciated, especially as some of the records are extremely difficult to read. I have something new now to go on!
