James Hart 1457

Trying to find information on James hart 1457. He served in the 90th Regiment of Foot around 1840-1855??
Any pointers would be appreciated

Do you know ??? ???
Date of Birth
Where he was born
His parents


Also what does 1457 mean after his name,(is it his service number) I guess that's not his DoB if he served in the 90th Regiment of Foot around 1840-1855 ;D :D

You could have a look at

there is a James hart listed at but note sure if this is the correct one... the above history will give you a better idea where regiment was stationed during the time you are looking at.... I do believe they served in India so you could check medal rolls at the other address below below...

Born around 1818.
1457 is the service no.
I think he was from Ashton, Lancashire.

Thanks again. I have Ancestry and have found some info, but it is on Fold 3. I don't have access to that or Forces war records.
I can see that there are a couple of records for James Hart no 1457 in Chelsea hospital, but they are also on Fold 3.

Served in abroad 8 years 1 month.
The Ceylon 4 years 11 months

Cape of Good Hope 3 years

Discharged at own request having completed 14 years service.

Possessed 2 Good Conduct badges. Entitled to defence pension.
Discharged Dublin 7 October 1853
Discharge Corps 90th Regiment of Foot.

Height 5ft 10ish.
Hair Brown
Eyes Blue
Complexion Fair.
Marks or scars JH and MH on left arm.

He had several misdemeanours
5 March 1839 for which he served 14  days solitary confinement.

7th March 1846
Forfeited a days Good Conduct pay.

Absent 16th to 23rd April 1849 Tried and sentenced to 28 days imprisonment.

Promoted to Corporal 16th May 1853.
