Evans family of Cwm yr afon, Llanbedr
« on: Tuesday 01 July 25 18:06 BST (UK) »
My GGGG Grandmother Jane Evans (1754 - 1831) is mentioned in the will of her uncle Griffith Evans.  He was high sheriff of Merioneth in 1788 and died in 1790, buried in Llanbedr on 6th April and Cwm Yr Afon farmhouse has a write up on the British Listed Buildings site, but other than that and the other details in the will I can't find out anything else about Griffith and his brothers Richard and John (d.1802).  I've checked the Llanbedr records and can't see anything obvious, but given his status in the area I'm surprised I've not found anything.   Any suggestions welcome?

Quick Google search turns up this ???

"Griffith Evans, High Sheriff of Merionethshire in 1788, was a member of the prominent Evans and Oakeley families of Tan-y-bwlch. While a full family tree is not readily available, it's known that he was associated with the Oakeley family through marriage and likely had connections to other notable families in the area like the Lloyds and Wynns"

There is also a link to an article about EVANS, GRIFFITH, and OAKELEY, families, Tan-y-bwlch, Maentwrog, Meironnydd.

Not sure if it helps but does possible give you other avenues to follow via other family connections. Good luck and happy hunting ;) ;)

When Evan Wynne married Jane Evans by license 10 January 1777 the witnesses are John Evans and Evan Evans.

What is her relationship to the witnesses?

Hi Amondg,  John Evans is probably Jane's father and Evan Evans is probably her husband's uncle.
