Yes, I can see by looking at online "trees" that BORMAN was the correct name.   However, in one of your many threads re: this family, (or more the George JOHNSON family), the surname of Mary Ann was given as BOWMAN.   (And of course those  "trees" also show that her siblings married as "BORMAN" )

Oddly, (also  ) Mary Ann's mother is indexed as "Dinah BOWMAN" on her re-marriage to MARSHALL.
My own guess at why BORMAN / BOWMAN have been confused, could be to do with the way the name was pronounced way back then ?   But registrars and the clergy did make errors with spelling. [Noticed too on a UK census (1871 I think) the handwriting of the surname looked more like "Bowman". ]    When we endeavour to assist with queries, we will most often refer to, and rely on, the official BDM listings for information, rather than look at "trees" (sometimes containing misinformation).

yes thanks for that. Sorry for the confusion It was George that married Mary Ann not captain BOORMAN As to George due to a 4th cousin in my Husbands DNA we have found him in the 1871 census with his unmarried mother Eliza White aged 3 mths not born Yarmouth as he said but Croydon Surrey( Still yet to find his actuall birth Rego)1881 he is with  William JOHNSON whom Eliza had married 1879 aged 11. After this we cant find him untill NZ & cust. Eliza married 1st to a charles EMMERSON at the end of 1871, he died1872 and she married as Emmerson to William Johnson Still dont know who georges real father was Thanks lnr

The Lyttelton was owned by Shaw, Savill & Albion and did indeed sink off Timaru in 1886. The official crew list for that final voyage (1886) is very likely held at The National Archives (UK) under the BT 99 series, searchable by the official number 78620. Sadly, the Maritime History Archive in Canada doesn’t have the 1886 list. You might also check FamilySearch for passenger names around June 1886, and PapersPast has local news coverage that mentions some crew.
