Keeper's Cottage, Tissington Hall

I have just 'discovered' a postcard sent in 1925 to my aunt addressed as above, which means that my grandfather had moved yet again (since the 1921 census). I found the appropriate Kelly's Directory and it shows him as 'gamekeeper to H.J. Wigram, Esq., Tissington Hall'. I thought this strange as it turns out that the Hall was and still is owned by the FitzHerbert family. I have contacted someone who has this gentleman on their tree os so possibly he'll sort out what Wigram was (I'm assuming he'd be Steward to the Hall).. However, what I'd like to know is whether the Cottage is in private hands now - just as idle curiosity really. It looks quite impressive from the photos. I wondered if some organisation such as the Landmark Trust would have taken it over? They did with another of the family's sometime residences - Knowle Hill nr. Foremark. Any Chatters have any thoughts - or even real knowledge - about this?

I would say it is still in private hands -- it is listed as the address of a Sole Trader Haulage Contractor

Thanks, Marmalady, it's interesting to know. If we manage to get over there (in the autumn now, it's too hot at the moment) I'll know to knock on the door and ask if I can take my own photographs. I still have to do the same to Knowle Hill but life keeps getting in the way of our trips to the Peaks!! I have a totally demanding spouse, insists on getting fed 3 times a day and goodness knows what else friends insist we go and eat out with them..what can I do but comply?

Newspapers in 1909 feature the story of the divorce of Henry Joseph Wigram, land agent of South Cottingham [sic] (after his wife had run off with the family doctor).
In 1921 Henry Joseph Wigram, born Collingham (see previous post) is a land agent living at The Rectory, Ordsall, Retford.

Thanks for those, Alan, most interesting. Land agents, like gamekeepers, seemed to move around a lot also. It's also interesting to see that 'scandalous behaviour' was NOT, as they seem to believe, invented by the young! Stay cool.
