"Scindia House"
« on: Yesterday at 19:16 »
I have an  old iron sign which reads "Scindia House".
It was found on a beach in Folkestone Warren where I understand debris from World War 2 bomb damage was bulldozed and tipped.
A bit of a long shot but I wondered if anyone has heard of Scindia House as I think it must be a house name.

Not in Kent but there was a house called 'Scindia' in Orchid Crescent, Billericay at the beginning of WW2

In 1921

Scindia, North Road, Llanbeblig, Caernarvonshire, Wales

Many many mentions in newspapers of a commercial building in New Delhi named Scindia House.

I don't know if it is an alternative to Scinde House.

There are some of that name, nearest to Kent being in Clapham. Seems to relate to the military, including a Scinde Medal and Scinde Horse regiment.

There are some people born in Scinde, India, on the Kent censuses, including four in Folkestone or Dover.

Very many thanks for the replies.
That was my post on Folkestone Memories (what an interesting site),seeing the sign again prompted me to tap the expertise always found on Rootschat.
Will now investigate the replies!

Here is a map showing where bombs fell on Folkestone during WWII

Looking at Kelly's street directory for 1909 very few houses have names but you could trawl through it.  No results for Scindia are showing in the search though.
