1700 French marriage
« on: Saturday 28 June 25 11:07 BST (UK) »
26th June 1700 marriage Martin Deligniere and Anthoinette Girault Montreuil sur Mer Notre Dame (images 427 & 428 on Pas de Calais Archives en ligne film).

This is the daughter of Jean Girault and Pauline Fourrier - Pauline Fourier makes her mark and is mentioned in the text. Jean Girault had died in 1687.

I can’t quite make this entry out - I think they have had to get permission from the bishop in Amiens? But I’m not sure why - does it say there’s only been two lots of banns?

A transcription would be great if anybody can make it out.

Many thanks

The bride and groom married after the publication of only 1 bann ( there had to be 3 publications , 1 a week)). Mr Moreau ," grand vicaire"  of the bishop exempted them from the 2 other banns and from the ceremony of engagement (les solennites des fiancailles). This usually means that they had to marry in a hurry , whatever the reason was.

Once again many thanks joger and Zefiro.

It sounds a lot like the process of getting a licence in England so that you didn't have to have the Banns read over 3 weeks.
