Help me find graves near Barnagrotty
« on: Thursday 26 June 25 21:46 BST (UK) »
I have three Protestant ancestors who died in the townland of Barnagrotty in the in Civil Parish of Borrisnafarney, I would have expected them to have been buried in Borrisnafarney Church of Ireland Church, but the graveyard list does not have them buried there: https://historicgraves.com/graveyard/borrisnafarney-church-ireland/bsfy

They are:
Adam Cooke B:abt 1817 D:26 Jan 1872 Barnagrotty, King's County
George Pattison B:Abt 1784 D:16 May 1873 Barnagrotty, King's County
Elizabeth (Bessie) Matilda Pattison B:abt 1819 D:3 Apr 1897 Barnagrotty, King's County

The families were not poor, so I’d expect marked graves. It would be wonderful to find them. Can you help me ?

Edit: Just to clarify - I have copies of all the death registers - it's the graves I'm looking for

If there was no gravestone or the stone is illegible it probably won't appear on that site. Not all families bothered to erect a gravestone so it wasn't always a matter of money.
You said the family were Protestant- what denomination? were they actually Church of Ireland?
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

I believe they were Church of Ireland. Certainly, Adam and Bessie were married in a CoI church (Geashill). I have all their death certificates - it's just frustrating not to be able to find a gravestone, particularly as they seem to have been a relatively prominent family. Thanks for your ideas though.

Since death certificates don't list place of burial you need to look at newspapers (death notice, in memorium notice) or death letters.

Kings County Chronicle, 7 Feb.1872: On 26th ult., his residence, Barnagrotty, Moneygall, King’s County, after a long and painful illness, borne with Christian fortitude, Adam Cooke, Esq., aged 55 years, to the inexpressible grief of his bereaved family and friends.

Evening Irish Times, 5 Apr.1897: ... at Barangrotty, Bessie M. Cooke, relict of the late Adam Cooke ...

Can't see if place of burial mentioned.
