Earbuds
« on: Thursday 26 June 25 12:41 BST (UK) »
I have a Windows 11 laptop and an android mobile phone.

I'm thinking of getting some wireless earbuds (rather than earphones - I don't want to look like a radio DJ  ;D ) but am not quite sure what I'm looking for.  I'm wanting to use them both with my laptop (for Zoom calls etc) and on my phone (for listening to things when I'm out and about).  I assume that I will need to download an app to my phone so that they "connect" to the earbuds, but what will I have to do with the laptop?  Download a program?

If these are silly questions, I apologise, but I wouldn't be asking if I knew the answers, would I?  ;D ;D

Can anyone help me please and also recommend a suitable brand?  Looking to spend around £100, if that's realistic.

Thanks

I don’t think you will be needing any additional apps. Connection will be via Bluetooth, and all modern devices have this built in, together with settings to control any connections you need to make.

I’m not a user of earbuds, so I’ll leave it to others to make recommendations.

Added: I’m assuming here that you are planning on getting wireless earbuds. If not the with wired earbuds I think the only thing you will need to worry about is that they have the correct physical connector (minijack, USB-C etc)

£30 gets good ones.  With Bluetooth you don't need connectors, that's the whole idea.  Unpack them, switch them on, and the music source will detect them.  BUT keep the sound very low until they connect.  Apologies to everyone on my recent flight when I had it at volume 11, not realising they hadn't connected.

I use earbuds but Apple ones.

Do ensure that whatever you choose has an inbuilt microphones as apparently not all do.

The portable case is in fact their charger and charging can take place on the move if needed.

There are reviews online that will give you more info, What HiFi has a current Review of them that is available online.

JBL have a pair at £89 that may suit, they come with three different flexible buds that fit to the devices to give the user the best fit.
