Alternative records?
« on: Tuesday 24 June 25 22:21 BST (UK) »
This is a Shropshire thing but more of a general question. I, m 90% sure my GFX6 died fairly young and his widow re married around 1793 but the problem is a lack of detail on the FindMyPast record. None of the 6 marriages on that entry state wether or not the groom or bride are batchelors/widowers/widows or spinster, I mean if it said widow that would be conclusive. Is there any other possibility of a different record or entry with more detail or am I stuck?

Are you saying you have found 6 potential marriages for the same name as your 6 x Gt grandmother all around 1793 & all on the same entry?

Are you looking at the original marriage entries or transcriptions?

You could try looking for a newspaper notice of the marriage, that may have the bride's status or father's name.

Or do you mean the six entries on the two pages of the opening of the register which includes your entry of interest?  Unlike the style of register introduced later, there is no box requiring the status to be entered, although it often was.  If it was omitted from this register there is probably no other official source, unless it was a marriage by licence or there is a banns book including that information.

I would look at the original & like MollyC said also look at the banns.
Also try & see if the had any children, some baptisms can give the mothers maiden name.
