Thomas Rourke (Wicklow) & Mary Byrne (Carlow)
« on: Tuesday 24 June 25 16:25 BST (UK) »
Hi.

I'm looking for information on Thomas Rourke and Mary Byrne (their parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, siblings), one set of my great grandparents. Thomas we believe was from Co. Wicklow (born cerca 1859) and Mary was from Co. Carlow (cerca 1864). They married in Dublin in around 1884/1885 and their first child was born in Co. Carlow, John Joseph. They had 7 more (we think) children, one of which was my Grandfather Patrick and they lived in Canal Side in Athy Co. Kildare. We can find them on the 1901 census, but can't find them on the 1911 one. Mary moved to Dublin after Thomas's death to live with one of her sons.

Any of this sound familiar to you? Please get in touch! Thanks!

It is difficult to know what exactly you are seeking as you have not linked any of the events that you have mentioned so we don't have to find/recreate them.  Most of us like to find at least the marriage or a death and at least a census, or two so we are on the right track.

Can you link to the 1901 census you have found the family on please.

Link to marriage

NB Mary is shown as a minor (under 21 years)  on the marriage record

Father of Thomas is James Rourke a Labourer

Father of Mary is James Byrne a Coachman

Link to birth of John Joseph Rourke

The family should be in Woodstock South in 1911 but going up and down through the images I can’t find their return.

Thomas Rourke on the House and Building Return with 10 people living in the house.
https://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/nai002551366/

BUT this page gives 9 people in the house, 6 males and 3 females.
