Baptisms on the same day in two separate churches

I have found two baptisms for David Firth, both on 14 Feb 1768. One baptism took place at Almondbury, All Hallows, and shows the father as Joseph of Lingarthwood. The second took place at St Bartholomew, Marsden, and names both parents, Joseph and Sarah, of Lingarthwood. They are clearly baptisms for the same boy and are definitely two baptisms because the details are slightly different. Both churches are large Church of England churches. The churches are about 10 miles apart. Has anyone else struck this and can anyone explain why the parents went to the effort of two baptisms?

The entry at Almondbury is under the sub-section "Christenings at the Chapel of Marsden".

Genuki shows that Marsden is within the parish of Almondbury.

I would interpret this to mean that the actual christening took place at Marsden.  :)

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

The parish of Almondbury was a large ancient parish containing several townships and churches.  In Yorkshire the parish names are shown on the OS 1st ed 6-inch map c.1850 in a large hollow font.  See sheet 259: https://maps.nls.uk/view/102345088

In the SE corner is the parish name Almondbury, running into the margin, with its area of 30583 acres in the corner of the map.  Above that is a township name in black italics: Marsden in Almondbury, 5133 acres.  The church is marked "Per(petual) Curacy" i.e. a subsidiary living.

Then see sheet 260: https://maps.nls.uk/view/102345091 where  Almondbury is in the NE corner with township area of only 2635 acres, and the same parish information in the top margin.

(ADDED  It seems Marsden was divided between two parishes by the River Colne, The northern part was "Marsden in Huddersfield" township, but no church.)
