A relative is an Executor and the last time we spoke, he mentioned a house sale was involved and nothing is settled very quickly.
An Executor told me he spoke to the other Executor (made enquiries at the Probate Registry) and made the Application for Probate fairly soon after the funeral, because the house value far exceeded the amount at which a Probate Application must be made.
ADDED: but the value did not seem to exceed the Inheritance Tax threshold.
If Inheritance Tax is likely to be due (because it exceeds the threshold) it can't be finally calculated until any property and taxable assets like a house actually sell, which can take quite a while.
The Application for Probate has usually been made quite early and well before any IHT is paid?
