Louisa Harriett Hazell
« on: Monday 23 June 25 05:59 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

I'm trying to pick up the trail of my Great Aunt, Louisa Harriett Hazell

Known details:

DOB: 01 Dec 1864 Chelsea, London, England
Emigrated to Australia: Departed London on the Star of Bengal bound for Melbourne on 23 Apr 1874. Arrived 14 Jul 1874.

Her father died onboard so her and her brother were classed as wards of the state upon arrival in Melbourne. Newspaper articles indicate that they faced Sandridge Police Court numerous times charged as 'neglected children'.

I have been able to visit the PROV office and look at her record, which I have attached below.

This record indicates she was discharged from a home in Geelong in late 1879. but I haven't been able to find any records post this date. Any information that could be shared would be very appreciated!

Thanks, I probably should have added that context as it's related even though seeking different information

This woman   had a cousin called Charles Stokes HAZELL

Her misconduct with this cousin brought about a divorce petition.

The whole sorry divorce saga. She was an English woman and in this item had a birthdate of round 1868

Ettie Louisa SCOTT also mentioned as a caterer in this dispute in 1911, which also mentions the skating rink.

In 1926 Charles HAZELL and Ettie Louisa SCOTT are called brother and sister.  ::)
https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/3730214

Not sure if it is mentioned in the items Sue gave - James William HAZELL is Ettie Louisa SCOTT's brother.

Modified - sorry, reading it again, James William HAZELL is brother of the co-respondent, so brother to Charles HAZELL.

I can’t quite find it now but Charles Stokes Hazell has been mentioned as a relative of Benjamin Hazell.
Previous thread I think.

Thanks for all the information! I believe the woman in the articles to be Harriet Edith Louisa Hazell, who would have been the cousin of Louisa Harriet Hazell. Harriet Edith had brothers Charles and James William.
