Looking for a fresh pair of eyes

I could use a fresh pair of eyes on a family tree I'm building for my partner – the Haddock family. My research has taken me from Walsall and Kidderminster all the way back through Wales and eventually to Essex and London in the 1400s.

The main point I'm struggling with is the connection to the well-known "Captain Haddocks." I've found another member's tree online that makes a direct link, but I have some doubts and want to be sure before I officially adopt that line.

Would anyone be willing to help me validate the tree I've located? Even just a quick look to see if it seems plausible.

Here is the complete, consolidated male lineage of the Haddock family based on all the images and information you have provided, presented in chronological order from the earliest known ancestor.

Usually the weak links start in the 1700s and similar.   Often the errors are in conflation of multiple people of similar names. A baptism existing for a William or Joseph Haddock does not mean it's the same man who was married half way across the country 25 years later.  But other records like wills can help.

I think the most obvious weak point will be around William Haddock (1688-1778), supposedly father in Essex (Joseph Haydocke married Priscilla Martin in London), but he born in Backbarrow in Cumbria, and then went to Wales to have his kids?   That's a lot of movement and not in an obvious way like between major port cities.

Now this couple do appear to have had a child William of a similar age, but this man died in 1725 and was probably didn't marry as his will leaves properly only to sisters/nephew.  Sure enough, it looks like this was linked on FS at some point but some collaberators have unlinked it due to the will evidence.

There are good resources available online for Essex going back to the 15th century at least. You haven't mentioned what original sources you have used, but the best place to start is the Medieval English Genealogy site (with resources up to about 1600):

You can use wildcards, for example Had*o*k, to find spellings like Hadok, Hadock, etc. They are as far away as Northumberland, but also several in Leigh on Sea:

There's at least one person posts on Rootschat with the name Haddock / Haydock / de Haydock who feels he knows a lot about a long ancestral line. Try looking him up, and see if there's anything helpful there.
