Who is This? - Father or Son George Johnstone Downie
« on: Monday 16 June 25 16:45 BST (UK) »
Hi All,

I have attached a photograph sent to me, of supposedly George Johnstone Downie (1884-1915) . The person seems to think this as it is entitled 'Father' (Assuming his father wrote this meaning his father), but now, taking a second glance the photograph would've had to of been taken in the late 1900's, whereas I think it looks a bit earlier than that. If not, I'd think it would be William Downie (1855-1896), his father. This would mean the person in question was in his late 30's or 40's, what doesn't seem too unlikely. Anyways, if anyone could possibly narrow down the date of this photograph I would much appreciate.

Thanks, Christopher.

The person is a young man in his 20s, I think.

Is the name of photographic studio written on the card?
The shape of the photo is important to help date - can you post the whole thing without cutting off edges?

I think this is a 1880's photo judging by the man's attire.
This one has similarities in the covered buttons and edge binding on the jacket.
NB I am no expert. ;D
