Polwarth or Fogo Kirk paintings
« on: Monday 16 June 25 13:59 BST (UK) »
My Jeffrey ancestors (1660 - 1740) were blacksmiths in the Polwarth and Fogo areas. Their OPR records have survived, and I've been able to visit these kirks. I would like to display artwork from this part of Scotland in my home, and am wondering if anyone is aware of paintings of these kirks? Thanks for any thoughts or suggestions.

Not a painting but there is a sketch of Polwarth in the images here:

Robert Noble painted Polwarth according to this entry on Artnet for the auction of the painting

I had no luck with Fogo.

There are some photographs of Polwarth Kirk at
https://www.geograph.org.uk/gridref/NT7449 and https://www.geograph.org.uk/gridref/NT7549

and some of Fogo Kirk at
https://www.geograph.org.uk/gridref/NT7749

Perhaps you could use these as a basis for your own artwork, or get a friend to do so?

Your ancestors might recognise Polwarth Kirk - see https://portal.historicenvironment.scot/apex/f?p=1505:300:::::VIEWTYPE,VIEWREF:designation,LB15384 - but not Fogo https://portal.historicenvironment.scot/apex/f?p=1505:300:::::VIEWTYPE,VIEWREF:designation,LB10512 because it wasn't built until 1755.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
