SHELERT surname - a mishearing?

Elizabeth Shelert, father's name Cecil, marries Oliver Lee Dec Q1876 Gateshead RD.

I can't find Cecil nor anyone else with the surname Shelert - anyone any thoughts on what it could be a mishearing of?

I thought maybe Shelter but that's not finding Cecil or Elizabeth for me.

It kind of sounds like Shallot (as in those small onions or the Lady of Shallot) but that's not finding me lots of people with the surname either.

Do you have the marriage certificate ?

That would give, ages for the bride and groom, occupations for them (if any) and those of their fathers
Witnesses could also give clues. If the Bride could write her name that may be clearer than the. usually already filled in, entry by the minister/parish clerk ready for the signatures.

Do you have them in Census returns after the marriage? 
That could supply you with birthplaces which may produce a clue.

Did they have children that you know of? What does the GRO say about their MMN?

All questions rather than an answer for you but exploring the above  may lead somewhere.

In case it helps, in censuses she gives her birthplace as Lincoln, and in 1891 she specifies Kirton.

His wife Elizabeth and her linked family have an array of surname variations:

Sharlott
Shelert
and the list goes on.

A Lemontina Lee married an Edgar Sharlott Q1 1914 Halifax.

Some of the Lee children births were registered in Halifax (e.g. Alexander bapt as Alick)
