Jane was Jane E & you  can find her in 1901 as Jane E Harrison still in Lancs & shown as a widow.

Birthplace shown is same as 1881 entry

Can't see the 1881 entry you mention for Martha.  Please post piece/folio/page number
Martha was in service to an Owen family, I, ll see if I can find it again

Your local library probably has free Ancestry access so you can check the link provided which takes you to a family tree for the Carter family

Seems James and Martha had 5 children and Martha was still alive in Chorlton 1921. Can't see a death for her or any marriages for her children.

Are you sure she was Martha - she is not on the 1881 census with Joseph & Ellen & your current post refers to a Mercy Carter who is on the 1881 census entry??
