I use the free IrfanView software.
Open the file and use Image, Resize.
Or simply save and "Set filesize".

Likewise, I use Irfanview.
As KGarrad says, open your image file and click 'Image', then click 'Resize'.

Thank you, both. I tried that but, again, the following appeared:
An Error Has Occurred!
Your file is too large. The maximum attachment size allowed is 900 KB.

I clicked on Resize/Resample but don't know which sizes to choose then, sorry.

If you are using a Mac then you can resize images withi Preview. Open up the Tools dropdown menu. I'd be surprised if Widows does not also have such a feature built in.

If you resize but then re-upload with the same image name, the upload will fail. Rename the image and choose something unique. I typically use three keywords separated by hyphens.

How big is the file at the moment? If it is say 5 MB then you need to make it about ten times smaller. So make one of the height or width about a third smaller then the size (area) will reduce by 3x3 which is a ninth so 5 MB becomes about 0.55 MB or 550 KB.

Maximum total size 900KB, maximum individual size 500KB

I add a dash and my initials to a filename :D
