What happened to the three Watson brothers b. 1840s Lambeth?
« on: Sunday 15 June 25 10:03 BST (UK) »
Hi all,
Hope evryone's having a wonderful summer. I'd like to ask for some help in locating the marriage/deaths of three brothers born c. 1840 in Lambeth. It's a strange family, with people having chaned names a few times. The brothers in question are Thomas Watson b. 1834, Albert Watson b. 1841 and Charles Watson b. 1843. They are the extramarital children of Thomas Trinder (1787-1852) and Frances Watson nee Dodson (1804-).  Following the death of his wife Martha, Thomas cohabited with Frances Watson and has three children with her. Thomas and Frances can be seen on Lambeth rough settlement exams, about which more information can be found here: https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=849100.0
Note that the children changed their names for an unknwn reason. Thomas is too old for a GRO registration, but 'Albert' was registered as
TRINDER, THOMAS  JAMES AUGUSTUS
Mother's Maiden Surname: DODSON
GRO Reference: 1841  J Quarter in LAMBETH  Volume 04  Page 259
and 'Charles' was registered as
TRINDER, CHARLES  HENRY ADOLPHUS THOMAS
Mother's Maiden Surname: DODSON
GRO Reference: 1843  M Quarter in LAMBETH
Frances and the three brothers can be found in '51: https://www.ancestry.com/search/collections/8860/records/1927917?tid=115002760&pid=142318149498&ssrc=pt
In '71, with son Charles a painter

Albert and Charles are living together in '61, Albert a potter's labourer and Charles a 'ILLEGIBLE board cutter'. Thomas can't be found with them.

Best wishes,
Francis

Hi
Let's start with Frances Dodson and her children.
She married John Watson at Battersea 25.8.1823 . Wit Margaret and Lucy Avery.
Children- all at Lambeth
Jane Watson 10.5.1827- 11.11.1827 Grays Walk father painter
Mary Ann 5.12.1831- 18.12 1831 Catherine St father painter and glazier
William bapt 25.5.1834 bur probably born 1828 Catherine St
Thomas 25.5.1834
Frederic 3.3.1836- 29.5.1836
John 30.6.1837 -23.11.1837 father dec Catherine St on baptism.
Then the 2 Trinder children bot baptised -Albert June 1841 and Charles 1843.

John Watson senior born c 1803 buried 30.4.1837 Catherine St Lambeth.
So Frances was able to marry Thomas Trinder.

1841 census Catherine St
Thomas Trinder 45 ginger bread maker y
John 17 Ginger bread maker
Thomas 7
Frances Watson 35 laundress
William 12
Thomas 8.

William is with Frances in 1861 unmarried bath attendent 5 Valentine Row Lambeth

Thomas marries 27.9.1857 Trinity Church Lambeth
Thomas Watson seal? board cutter Carlile St John painter
Frances Moss same d of John bricklayer
wit James E Nicholls and Mary Ann Whiting.
They had a daughter Rosina bapt st Mary the Less Lambeth 23.1.1859 97 Union St Scale board maker.
Something happens to the family as Rosina is with her grnadparents  1861 21 King st under John and Elizabeth Map.
By 1871 90 Union st Lambeth
Fanny Watson 33 widow laundress Lambeth
Rosana 12 scholar.
So Thomas seems to have died but no sign of a burial.
For Albert you need post 1861
And Charles post 1871 when he is with his mother  at 35 James St .
Still got nothing on them post that.
