Devereux/Deverside Hyat
« on: Thursday 12 June 25 19:04 BST (UK) »
Hi, I'm looking into my ancestor Deborah Hyat, born 1728 in Herne, Kent and her father. I've found him listed as Devereux Hyat and Deverside Hyat on different records. I can't seem to find his baptism or much else about him apart from Deborah's baptism and a potential marriage to a Margaret Kemp. I would really appreciate any help. Thank you  :)

I haven't found a baptism for him. (I imagine there are endless variations on his name!) It looks as if he married twice, in 1719 to Margaret Kemp, and in 1727 to Mary Christian. I think Mary was Deborah's mother, and Devereux had died just before she was born.
This is all open to correction.

Just thinking about name variations - I have Devereux as a surname in my tree and it has ranged from Debrux, to Durber to Doorbar so be open to anything.

There is a Devereus Hoyat of Herne in an index of wills in 1727, but no details, on Findmypast.
It gives the location as Kent History Centre archive, reference PRC/27/42/6.

I checked the archive, but couldn't find it - https://www.kentarchives.org.uk/

Hello
Just to add a few burial details.
Devereux buried Herne 26th Jan 1728
Wife of Devereux buried 12.7.1726

And we know he had William 20.10.1720 ,Margaret 22.12.1722 and possible Catherine 8.3.1726-13.3.1726 (father given as Diddy)

It looks like his widow either married 17.2.1741 Benjamin Graveley bach of Greenwich by licence or died Mary Hyatt widow 21.11.1762 .
There is also a Benjamin s of Widow Hyatt baptised 31.8.1735.
Which is all great but still no baptism.

I've not been having much luck either.

There is an inventory for a Devereus Hoyat of Herne dated 1727, PRC/27/42/6
