The subject marriage registration entry has the bride as Roseanne Thompson, daughter of William Thompson , shoemaker and the groom as Thomas Franklin Thompson, soldier, son of Richard Thompson, baker
Location was All Saints parish church, Clooney, Co Londonderry
HOWEVER, the Service Record for Richard Conway, 16th regiment, no 1291, has the same bride, date and location for HIS marriage, and he is shown as the father of her subsequent children in their official registrations
So who was Thomas Franklin Thompson ?????

Richard and Harriet married in 1834 and can be found with some children in 1841 655/28/8 - Cowley, Middlesex

Harriet is widowed in 1851 and 1861 so no remarriage to a Conway.

What info do you have re Richard Conway?

Perhaps they got together and lied about their marriage?

Should Mr Conway be Frederick?

I see a likely family in 1891 1111/116 - living in Hertford.

UK Long Service and Good Conduct Medals

Conway  Frederick

Quartermaster Sergeant

Service No 1291

Recommendation date 1882

Bedfordshire Regiment
1st Battalion

On his Attestation record ( available via Findmypast) he gives wife as Rose Ann Thompson ( as opposed to Roseanne) and married Londonderry ( not strictly true) 9th Sept 1870

They went on to have children ( according to descendant who I am trying to help with wedding mystery). They are assuming , they tell me, that Army would not let them move about as husband and wife without documentary proof??

Anne 1876 Hertford
Fred 1878 Ireland
Benjamin Somerville 1880 Athlone Ireland
Rose Thompson 1881 Hertford
Henry W 1884 Shorncliffe Kent
Rupert Thompson 1888 Hertford
Ralph Thompson 1890 England

The gap between the marriage and the first child might be significant.
Perhaps they used Rose Anne’s marriage date and details to cover up that they were not married.
You would imaging that the army records woukd need the details but that is all I can think of.

You could try looking for military records for Thomas Franklin Thompson.

To confuse the issue even more
Richard Thomas Franklin Thompson  was born July 13th 1871 at Frederick St,  Newtonards, Co Down to Roseann Thompson former!y Thompson and FREDERICK Thompson, a soldier. This would be the first child of the mystery marriage. According to the person researching the Thompson/Conway connection, in 1871 the bogus husband's regiment was stationed in Newry ,some distance away

Which is the ‘bogus’ husband you refer to?

Initially I thought there may have been a change of identity for some reason but both men have earlier records.
I suppose Frederick and Franklin could be interchanged.

This child having the middle name of Franklin would point to Thomas being the father.

Do you know what happened to him?
