HP scanner help, please
« on: Wednesday 11 June 25 11:04 BST (UK) »
When I launch the HP Smart app and select Scan, I get this message, which doesn't really make sense, because my printer (HP Envy 6032) prints, so is definitely connected and says "Ready" on the app.  I've looked at HP help, but can only see help for "Scanning is currently unavailable", which doesn't seem to be the same thing.  Any idea, please?

Thanks

I have that problem with our Canon printer when trying to print from my laptop, although my husband can print perfectly well on it from his tablet and I can print from my 'phone.  I've tried everything to try to sort out the problem, but no luck.  So I downloaded VueScan.  You can pay annually, or a once off payment for life.  It works perfectly well and is very easy to use.

There is a free version but I think it puts a watermark on copies.

There is pretty new HP software available for your device, April 2025.

Suggest you download it, then uninstall everything HP related on your device and install the new software.

Assuming you are on Windows 11, if you are on Windows 8 then you may have unresolvable issues short of installing third party software.

I had to dump my old Canon scanner as it was no longer supported and no drivers were available for Windows 11, made useless as ViewScan did not see the scanner so that in itself was also useless.

A new Canon scanner (400) is £70 so if I need to scan a lot then that is the route I would take.

Thanks both. I'll see if anything has changed in the morning and, if not, try what you have suggested.

Thanks again

Some HP scanners if they are part of a printer/scanner/copier sometimes won't scan through the USB port that you would normally connect to.

Some of the later ones require connection through a network to scan, which means using an ethernet cable connected to your router.

Microsoft seem to be making a habit of breaking and then fixing usb issues recently.
With regards to Viewscan, if it does not work, contact them, as they seem to take pride in being able to support pretty much any scanner.
