By a stroke of luck, I found James Murphy in the 1891 census here in Scotland, living with his married daughter in Wishaw. He is described as a "visitor" but, 10 years later, he was still with her and I now have his death in 1901, parents names given as Patrick Murphy and Nancy McGiff.
Paterson, Torrance, Gilchrist - Hamilton Lanarkshire. 
McCallum - Oban, McKechnie - Ross of Mull Argyll.
Scrim - Perthshire. 
Liddell - Polmont,
Binnie - Muiravonside Stirlingshire.
Curran, McCafferty, Stevenson, McCue - Co Donegal
Gibbons, Weldon - Co Mayo.
Devlin - Co Tyrone.
Leonard - County Donegal & Glasgow.
