Henderson Greenwell (help)
« on: Friday 06 June 25 13:26 BST (UK) »
I have marriage certificates in Sunderland of Mary Greenwell on 22/7/1845, also her brother Joseph Greenwell on 2/7/1853 and on both certificates they state father as Henderson Greenwell. I can not find a birth, marriage, death or census of their father Henderson Greenwell. I do know their mother is Jane Greenwell and by census details they come from Chester-Le-Street to Sunderland.
Can anyone help trace Henderson Greenwell.

Who did Mary and Joseph marry?
Do you have them in 1841 census?

Is there an occupation for their father on the certificates?

Hinchliffe - Huddersfield Wiltshire
Burroughs - Arlingham Glos
Pick - Frocester Glos

Mary married James Drummond, Joseph married Isabella Thompson. In 1841 census for Chester-Le-Street Jane 44, Mary 22 and Joseph 10 were together,

Looking at a published tree, perhaps yours, there is a baptism for Joseph where mother, Jane is described as a single woman.

Baptism of Mary states she was illegitimate child of Jane Greenwell chr Chester le street 8 Sept 1822, born at High Flatts . No mention of a father. Here's the BT

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HT-63J7-KG8?wc=9K59-JWP%3A13618101%2C16337901%2C17283302%26cc%3D1309819&cc=1309819&lang=en&i=32

Possibly the father was a Henderson or had the first name Henderson. Or he could be a made up person! Have you checked the Durham county record offices catalogue for a bastardy bond?

I found both those births on Durham bishops transcripts and I think Henderson is probably a made up name, I was just revisiting my tree and thought I’d have another go at putting things right.
Thanks all

One possibility

There's a Henderson Lax, shoemaker, unmarried in Chester-le -street in 1851 b. Abt 1795

Household schedule number    46
Piece    2394
Folio    119
Page number    9

DNA could be the way forward.
