Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland, Electoral Registers, 1857-1962
« on: Thursday 05 June 25 16:20 BST (UK) »
I wonder if someone can help me out here. I have just wasted over an hour searching in vain. Surely I am missing something.

I have practically all the information I need. I would just like to be diligent and pinpoint exactly when this family moved home.

I have them in 1952 at one address and 1962 at their new address. Both addresses are within this group of records.

I believe with a degree of certainty that they moved between 1953 and 1955 but I would like to prove it.

I don't even know how I found these two entries. It seems impossible to search these records even though I know constituencies, wards, addresses etc. Any search I do with just the name and the odd keyword comes up with 100's if not 1000's of results.

I know these records are not indexed. Is that what is causing the difficulty and if so is there any way round it. Obviously being and electoral register dates of birth are of limited help as the family are all of voting age.

Can anyone help before I lose the plot altogether.

To be clear, I have the addresses, I just want to track them forward three years. Does anyone know how to do this?

Post-war Glasgow and surrounding areas saw a huge growth in peripheral Council housing estates being built eg. Drumchapel, Easterhouse, Pollok and Castlemilk etc.

Assuming that the family moved into a council house in one of these housing schemes, it should be possible to find out from housing records when the various phases of these, or similar, housing estates were released for occupation, and as you have the 1955 address it should be a relatively? easy task to pin down an entry date.

The City of Glasgow housing department may have retained these records, or they may be archived, possibly at the Mitchell Library.

You may find the attached reference of interest  (https://www.rootschat.com/links/01tt0/)

Happy hunting and Good Luck!

Thank you for this. I know the development was started around 1953. I know they had moved by 1955.

I will follow up.

It would have been nice to identify the move through the electoral roll, it was just proving extremely frustrating and i wondered if there were any tricks to searching the electoral roll that I was missing.

The new development was in the Pollock constituency.
