Tom Nicholas Neale WW2
« on: Saturday 31 May 25 23:59 BST (UK) »
Wonder if anyone can help with this one please.

Tom Nicholas Neale served in the Army Service Corps (MT) in WW1
MIC shows Pte. M2/166496. Aged 18 when he joined according to his short service papers.

Son of Samuel Richard Neal and Mary Ann Neale. Living in Blandford Dorset. Tom being 21/10 months old.

Interested in Tom's WW2 service, guessing he was with the RASC, and issued WW2 Stars for Africa 1942-43 and Italy, etc.

Additionally went on to gain a LSGC Medal in the Fire Service as a fireman, guess again Dorset as that's where these items were found.

Can any one help at all with the WW2 element please?

Many thanks,
Chris.

In case it helps anyone looking, he was born in 1897.

In 1939 he was a Grocers Van driver and storeman. And in the Blandford Borough Volunteer Fire Brigade.

As an aside, in case you are interested, there is a lovely article with photograph of "Samuel Richard Neale" of Blandford (though I think this meant to be Samuel James NEALE), aged 14, on leaving school.

Chris,
His WW2 service record will probably not yet be available online. It will be at the National Archives in the process of being catalogued. If you have an Ancestry account, keep checking there for him as Ancestry have the contract to digitise the records of men born over 115 years ago.
I wouldn't assume that he went back into the RASC. In any case he would have been issued a new Army number, although it is possible that his WW2 record will refer to his previous service.
If you wanted to speed up the process of getting his record, contact the MOD and they will supply you with a reference number (not his Army number) which will then allow you to ask TNA to release his record as a photocopy. Without the reference number TNA will be unlikely to find the record among the 9 million they are currently processing.
