Army Service Record Help with entries
« on: Friday 30 May 25 13:52 BST (UK) »
The attached document is a clip from the Service and Pay Book of Alexander McDonald Shaw.  He served in the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders between 1939-1946.

The first entry dated 4 August 1945 I think says 28 days.  I need help with the next word please.

The second entry is 7 days, 10 September 1945 compassionate leave - his father died 7 September 1945.

Third entry is 12 days leave, 1 November 1945 is PRIV including VJ. Does PRIV mean private and what does V.J stand for?

Thanks in advance for any help given.

Jules

PRIV is Privilege leave, and presumably the VJ reference is for extra leave granted following victory over Japan

Re: the Disembarkation leave, I did a quick search on the web and apparently folk a lot cleverer than I also didn't know how it worked and asked questions in Parliament

The only silly scenario would be to NOT ask and therefore not have the chance to know :-)
