Can anyone please help me with something
« on: Thursday 29 May 25 07:06 BST (UK) »
Good morning everyone.
I'm not sure how if possible if anyone can help me with something I'm trying to find.
As you know I've been doing my family research for a while now quite a few years ago I was kindly sent a 1911 Scottish census. In the Cencus it has my grans name down as Eva Barrett and her adopted parents David joesph Schulman and his wife Annie.
Apparently my gran Eveline was born in Aberdeen  we knew apparently her birthday is 26th February 1911.
But recently I have been told /it's been suggested that she could have been born either 1905 or 1906

I have a great aunt who has told me what she was told but could be rumour.
My gran was left on the door step of Annie and her 1st husbands  they both took her in.   So I questioned myself. If this is true. How would they know my grans birthday. Unless Annie is the biological mother of my gran. I'm only thinking about it.

So I thought if only I could find out 2 addresses for each.
The address of where Annie and David was living. And the address of where Annie and her 1st husband was living before either they split up or when Annie's 1st husband passed away.

I came up with the idea last night. It's been bothering me all night.
So I thought why not ask for help by the ones who know what they are doing.
Maybe  I will get the addresses maybe not.
But at least I would know.

So I'm hoping if at all possible if someone can help me. I don't know where to start with this.
Thank you all again for your help and your time. I really appreciate it.
Kind regards
Dorothy

Do you have a marriage record for Annie and David?

Do you know the name or any details of her first husband? (Was he Mr Barrett?)

The marriage entry for David and Annie have them living at the same address - 157a West North Street, Aberdeen.  They are shown as Bachelor and Spinster.  You have all the paperwork, together with the dispensation issued at the time - David being Jewish and Annie being Roman Catholic.  The date of the marriage was 14 December 1908.

You also have the details of what appears to be a previous marriage for Annie - 18 December 1907 1897- and John Hendry O'Pray.  Annie O'Brien shown as a Spinster.

You also have the death entry details for John Hendry O'Pray - 14 January 1931 in Glasgow - married to Annie O'Brien.

Even more complications  :-\ :-\

There would appear to be 3 birth registrations in Hutchesontown - 1899, 1900 amd 1901 - all with the surname of O'Pray and mother's maiden name of O'Brien.  Also 4 deaths in Hutchesontown in 1901 - you have the entry for one of them showing mother's maiden name of O'Brien - cause of death was measles.   :'(

MonicaL has given information on the births and deaths, and was able to add the other birth registration which was entered with the surname of O'PrEy in 1901, rather than O'PrAy.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
Remember - "They'll be found when they want to be found" !!!
If you don't ask the question, you won't get an answer.

I'd have thought there was nothing to add to Eveline's story. This if I recall would be the 3rd/4th do-over.
Not that anyone is discouraged to help; just review what's been done before so as not to waste efforts
